Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week!
In this episode, Tyrion’s just gonna need you to sign this NDA. Boilerplate, nothing to it, he swears. Would he lie to you?
This week, we:
- Talk about visual adaptation and what we see when we read ASOIAF.
- Laugh at Pycelle and how he sucks and how Tyrion bowls over him
- Accuse Tyrion of complicity of war crimes as he shrugs his father's war crimes off
- Say Good Day to Cersei as she comes in warm our hearts
- Watch as Littlefinger and Tyrion fuck with each other
- Listen in on Varys and Tyrion's attempt to manipulate each other
- Argue that Game of Thrones, Season 2's version of this scene was better.
Next week, Sansa II where we...stay right here in King’s Landing for Sansa II, in which two drunk not-knights take out their issues on her. Sigh.

Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week!
In this episode, the Northmen come to Winterfell to offer their services to the Starks for nothing in return, because they’re all about manly honor. Right? Right?!
This week, we:
-Defend George's food porn as an essential part of worldbuilding and character development
-Compare Bran to the terrible horrible Walders as microcosms of the Stark v. Frey approaches to politics
-Dig deep into the layers of Northern politics as acted out by everyone from Lord Wyman Manderly to the Umber Uncles to (from afar) the Bastard of Bolton
-Discuss Bran's character arc from a would-be knight to a will-be king, with magic powers along the way
-Frame the Hornwood inheritance crisis as central to the downfall of House Stark
Next week: "one, two, three." Need we say more? Oh, yes: ACOK Tyrion IV will be our next livestream episode, on Monday 11/18 at 830 PM EST!

Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week!
In this episode,His Grace King Stannis Baratheon tells the Lannisters to get the hell off his lawn, and they respond in a multitude of ways, some smart, some ... less so.
This week, we:
- Talk about the worst theater commander in ASOIAF
- Look at Tyrion and Cersei, explore their dynamic through lies and mummery
- Give an honest appraisal of why Cersei is so freaked out why Tywin or Joffrey will find out about her relationship to Jaime
- Explore Tyrion's relationship with his image of the demon monkey man
- Get in deep (phrasing) on the sexual dynamics in Westeros vs the Summer Islands
- It's Varys and Tyrion talk politics time, and boy are we having fun.
- Answer definitely the question on who was the Hand of the King who built the tunnel to Chataya's brothel in King's Landing
Next week, Bran II, in which the Northmen left behind by Robb’s army come to Winterfell to make demands...from bended knee, of course. And we will be joined for this very political chapter by our most frequent guest, Steven Attewell!

Episode 86: A CLASH OF KINGS, ARYA IV: "Lake of Fire"
Monday Nov 04, 2019
Monday Nov 04, 2019
Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week!
In this episode, the pig-faced shit-knight Amory Lorch wipes out Yoren of the Night’s Watch and most of his charges. It’s not all bad news, though; at least Arya saves Rorge and Biter!
This week, we:
- Go through some of our favorite and "favorite" Apple Podcast Reviews
- Talk about the unsettling feeling of dread settling over the scene well before Amory Lorch shows up
- Talk about the Tolkienesque aspects of this chapter and how George reinterprets Tolkien's critiques of the crimes against nature.
- Discourse on Yoren as an idealist and how his ideals aren't so far removed from the current time of the story
- Battlechapter! Battlechapter! Slaughter ... chapter?
- Address why Amory Lorch as a war criminal takes backseat to Gregor and Vargo Hoat
Next week: Tyrion III, in which the Lannisters react to His Grace King Stannis Baratheon’s letter declaring them traitors (fuck yeah, righteous) and Tyrion begins work on a project for his metalworking class that probably won’t turn out to be important at all.

Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week!
In this episode, the messiah, her miracle babies, and her dwindling entourage wander the desert in pursuit of a star, only to be met by three wise men. Well...not all of them are men, and none of them are wise, but you get the idea.
This week, we:
-Rank our favorite Star Wars movies (lest we be the only ones not to)
-Discuss our...mixed feelings about Dany's prophetic arc in ACOK and her spiritual place in general
-Praise how George writes Dany as a young mother, albeit of lizards
-Dig into the layers of imagery and metaphor in this chapter's settings, the Red Waste and Vaes Tolorro
-Begrudgingly allow Jorah Mormont to tell his mediocre life story
Next week: Pig-faced shit-knight Amory Lorch wipes out the heroic grump Yoren of the Night's Watch, along with most of his ragged fellowship, in ACOK Arya IV! Can't wait until Lorch dies.

In this episode, we are joined once more by our own High Inquisitor Frank B as the onion knight gives the freshly crowned Stannis Baratheon some sensible advice, only to get a Shakespeare monologue for his trouble.

- Analyze both the simplicity *and* complexity of the Stannis-Davos dynamic
- Dig into the layers of meaning contained in Stannis' brief mention of his parents' deaths
- Expose and then set fire to Stannis' heart with the Proudwing backstory
- Discuss whether Stannis and Davos will ever meet again in the books (they won't)

- Discuss, argue, debate over Davos as a POV and whether Stannis or Davos is the bigger hero
- Balance Stannis' justice vs. R'hllor

Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week! In this episode, Tyrion informs Janos Slynt that the company’s moving in a different direction, but they’ll be sure to keep his resume on file.
This week, we:
-Debate who qualifies as protagonist of each book in the series
-Praise how George paces Tyrion's tipping point from luring in Janos Slynt to turning on him
-Discuss the many ways in which Tyrion's victory is undercut, from Cersei to Bronn
-Take a deep dive into the layers of political meaning in Varys' riddle
-Put that riddle in context with the reveal of Young Griff
Next week: Guestember continues with our own High Inquisitor--and Stannerman supreme--Frank B for Davos I, which will be another two-parter episode! It's not our fault the Dragonstone chapters are the best!
