Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter (though not in this case) podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week!
In this episode, Arya Stark wanders the war-torn Riverlands with her new companions: kids who try to rob her, adults who threaten to kill her, and her guardian Yoren, who beats her. It’s...it’s just so much fun to make new friends.

- Wonder whether Jon will adopt his mother's heraldry when he learns the truth
- Frame Arya as the "underfoot" POV among the smallfolk suffering under the clashing kings
- Talk about how George gradually paces his reveal of The War in all its horror
- Dig into Yoren of the Night's Watch as a figure of ambiguity and tragedy
- Munch popcorn as the downtrodden stand up to their oppressors...albeit only briefly, because this is ASOIAF and we can't have nice things for long

- Talk about the choice of introducing Stannis and Melisandre through Cressen's POV instead of Davos
- Attempt and ABSOLUTELY SUCCEED in re-evaluating Stannis against the memes and preconceived notions
- Set Stannis's characterization against what Robert, Renly and Westeros believe about him
- Re-evaluate Selyse and offer a more sympathetic picture of Queen Selyse while also looking askance at her fanaticism.
- Define Melisandre and her purpose in the story, analyzing her in the context of magic and magic
- Talk about Stannis burning Shireen in the context of the books and show.
